Very early in the morning – with the time difference – the qualifications for the 4th round of the A1GP season took place in China, at the Zhuhai circuit.

Germany and Switzerland have been the two teams in form since the start of the weekend, and it is therefore logical that these two countries share the pole positions. Thus, Mickael Ammermuller, who is starting his second round in A1, secured a fine pole position in race 1, known as the Sprint, for Germany. Neel Jani, for Switzerland, achieved the best qualifying time for race 2, known as Endurance.

Reminder: The qualifying rounds take place in 4 parts of 15 minutes each.

During the first two, the best time from each nation is recorded, which then determines the starting grid positions for the “Sprint” race (No. 1).

During the last two qualifying sessions, the best time from each nation across the two sessions determines its position in the “endurance” race (no. 2).

Qualification 1 – Sprint

The German Mickael Ammermuller had a very impressive session and took the opportunity to secure his first pole position in the championship. He set his qualifying lap in the second session.

Adam Carroll for Ireland, who set his best time in the first of the two sessions, will start in third position, ahead of the Chinese driver, at home – Cheng Cong Fu – and Great Britain (5th).

France, which faced difficulties yesterday, clocked the best time in the third free practice session this morning, demonstrating that yesterday’s accident had no impact, but Duval will still start 7th, far behind Switzerland, the main competitor in the championship.

Tomas Enge for the Czech Republic signs the 6th fastest time, while another rookie, Robert Wickens, for Canada will start from 10th place on the grid.

Very disappointing, New Zealand (J. Reid) and South Africa (A. Zaugg) are only 13th and 14th on the grid, far from the results at the start of the season.

Qualification 2 – Endurance

Néel Jani, leading with Switzerland in the championship, demonstrated his full potential by securing the pole position for the endurance race. He will be ahead of Great Britain with Oliver Jarvis by a tenth and former F1 driver Narain Karthikeyan for India tomorrow.

Loic Duval for France performs better than in the previous qualification and secures the 4th best time, ahead of Germany and China, at home.

The USA, Malaysia, South Africa, and New Zealand performed much better than during the Sprint qualification and completed the top 10.

Ireland with Carroll will only start 13th… while it’s worse for Tomas Enge and the Czech Republic, only 16th. Italy and Mexico close the grid.
