Jérôme D’Ambrosio was officially announced today by the GP2 leaders as part of the DAMS team.
The Belgian, world champion of the “Formula Master” in 2007, a sister championship to the WTCC, will compete alongside Kamui Kobayashi in 2008, who has been confirmed for a few weeks already in the French team.
Jérôme proved his talent by winning the Formula Master championship, affirmed recently Jean-Paul Driot, the director of DAMS and A1 Team France, which is participating this weekend in the 4th stage of the A1 championship in China.
« After encountering some difficulties in financing his transfer, he found a major sponsor who enabled him to race on the track, and we will provide him with the best equipment and personnel to win together. »
« Having a teammate like Kobayashi will be a very good start for him in GP2, » concluded Driot.
D’Ambrosio added: « I am really happy to drive for DAMS in 2008. The team has a lot of experience and I think we will be able to do a good job together. »
« The GP2 has shown over the last three years that it is the reference championship for any driver who wishes to move up to F1… so it’s fantastic for me to make it there and I want to try to make the most of this situation in the best possible way. » Concluded the Belgian.
