The Portuguese Tiago Monteiro – SEAT Sport – indicated that his goal was to win the championship in 2008.

The former Formula 1 driver arrived in WTCC this season, achieving three podiums and an 11th place in the final standings. Monteiro will be again with the Spanish team SEAT Sport in 2008, alongside Tarquini, Gené, Rydell, and the world vice-champion Yvan Muller.

« I still have a lot to learn. I think I have the speed but not yet the experience. In WTCC, you have to be well placed from the first race to have a chance to score points in the second. I need to focus on this aspect to fight for the title. » Confirmed the Portuguese.

« Next year I will be able to do the winter tests. It was difficult last year because I was coming from single-seaters and I hardly got to discover the car. I learned a lot last season, but with a full program, I think I’ll have a better feeling with the car and a better understanding of the setup. I really appreciated the trust and recognition from SEAT towards me. »

Monteiro admitted that he had taken great pleasure behind the wheel of a WTCC after two seasons spent in Formula 1. « Definitely, it is the most “fun” and aggressive series I have known. I have raced on Porsches, but it was not as competitive as a WTCC. In single-seaters, the most comparable thing would certainly be ChampCar. It is, in any case, the most balanced championship I have participated in. »
