Hamilton: « McLaren will not deviate from its goal »

Lewis Hamilton expresses confidence that his team, McLaren, will not waste time in its preparations for 2008, despite having to wait until February to find out if their car is legal.

McLaren had hoped to get the green light from the FIA last week on the design of their car with the World Motor Sport Council. Indeed, the latter was to rule on the use of Ferrari’s intellectual property on McLaren cars.

But the decision has been delayed until February, which means the team will find out what the judgment has in store for them only four weeks before the start of the next season.

Hamilton admits that the situation could destabilize the team, but he is certain that it will be able to forget this date and continue moving forward.

« My only concern is that the team’s focus and determination are not affected, and I know that won’t happen, » said Hamilton on the BBC.

I simply hope that the team will keep in mind that we are still the best.

After the title was within his grasp in 2007, Hamilton vowed to put all his efforts and experience from this season into the pursuit of the title next year.

« For me, from the first Grand Prix in Australia to the last one of the season planned in Brazil, I will work at 100%, » he declared.

He added: « I can’t say I will win next year, but I believe I have the ability to win and that I am in the right team. Total dedication and hard work will make things easier, and the final victory is then conceivable. »

« I hope I can deliver sporting victories for Great Britain in 2008. I am very proud of my family and my fans, I am very proud to be British. The support I’ve had has been fantastic. »

« I don’t think I would disappoint them. It was my first year but I hope they continue to support me, » concluded Hamilton.
