Franck Perera has set his goal for the 2008 season: to be present in Champcar.
The Frenchman has already conducted private tests with the Forsythe/Petit team two weeks ago; successful tests that suggest Perera could be in a Champcar discipline next season.
« The cars are very good in the Atlantic series but if I crossed the ocean to land in America, it’s certainly for the ChampCar World Series. » Commented the Frenchman.
At 23, the Montpellier native is the runner-up champion of the Champcar Atlantic Series but has also already done testing last season for Toyota and added: « It was a great pleasure for me to drive a single-seater as fast as an F1 and to help Toyota progress, but I have a new opportunity in ChampCar and I would like to thank the whole team for this, especially Mr. Forsythe and Mr. Pettit for giving me this chance. »
I was happy to show that I was competitive. I would have liked to go even faster but ultimately we were only there to test the car and I think I accomplished this mission.
Brown, who oversaw the test, was impressed: « During the two consecutive days of testing, we were very strict and demanding on Franck [Perera]’s performance. However, he worked without any issues, which is very encouraging and clearly shows the hope placed in him. »
« He is an accomplished professional with a very good sense of perfection… » Concluded the engineer.
Sébastien Bourdais is no longer in Champ Car, so for now there are only two French drivers in the discipline, but the two vacant seats could still be taken by French drivers… Perera remains the favorite at Forsythe.
