When asked whether the team principal of the British team, Ron Dennis, should resign, Mosley replied: « It is not for me to say. »
« I have no problem with Ron, contrary to what the rumors say. I don’t see any particular issue. »
« All I wish for is that someone would tell us exactly what’s happening, to be open and honest.
It has been suggested that the problem with Mosley is that McLaren has not told the whole truth this year, and as a result, the Briton does not trust the team.
« I cannot assert that the team told us the whole truth, » said Mosley on July 26 during the first hearing.
« There are reasons to think that they may not have told us the whole truth, » he said on September 13.
« Ultimately, we are trying to run a sport, we don’t have the resources of the police or secret services. »
« We have very little time, and it is extremely inconvenient to go through hundreds and hundreds of pages produced by lawyers who are paid for the time they spend on the case, » added the FIA president.
« They completely distort the core values of sport, but on the other hand, we cannot afford to let people cheat. »
We will have to wait four weeks before the start of the 2008 season at the Australian Grand Prix to know if the McLaren team and their only confirmed driver so far, Lewis Hamilton, will be able to compete with interest for the constructors’ and drivers’ titles.
There is a strong chance that the team and Hamilton will be sidelined if the other F1 teams and the World Motor Sport Council rule that there are sufficient grounds to do so.
McLaren was warned on September 13, after the hearing during which the team was found guilty of unauthorized possession of confidential Ferrari information, that their 2008 season could be jeopardized.
Following this hearing in Paris, the FIA’s technical department conducted a visit to the headquarters, and it seems that some grounds for suspicion were discovered.
« If there is a negative conclusion about 2008 for McLaren, and that’s just an if, then the punishment could apply to everyone, » confirmed Mosley.
