Kovalainen is not worried!

Heikki Kovalainen insists that he is not worried about his future in F1, even if Renault has not yet revealed to him whether he will be part of the team next season.

Even though the Finn shone in his F1 debut with the French car manufacturer, his chances of staying with the team seem to depend on the possible return of the double world champion Fernando Alonso.

Alonso should agree to a deal and there is also the case of Nelson Piquet Jr, who may become a race driver. In any case, he is sure to remain a reserve driver in 2008.

While the discussions between Alonso and Renault have not yet borne fruit, Kovalainen is left aside and risks not getting his seat back.

However, speaking to autosport.com, the Scandinavian driver clarified that he is calm about his career prospects, and stated that he already has another attractive option if Renault no longer wants him.

There haven’t been any new developments. We need to closely monitor the situation, and if Renault doesn’t want to commit to me in the future, then I must consider other options, he said regarding his future.

I have another very interesting option in terms of competitiveness, so we are keeping it within reach. Renault has not yet confirmed me for 2008, to know whether the team wants to continue working with me or not.

We don’t know the identity of this alternative precisely, but for several weeks rumors have circulated about Kovalainen’s chances of landing the second race seat at McLaren.
