Audi announced this morning in a statement that it has renewed the contracts of the 4 main drivers of its official team in DTM.

Mattias Ekstrom, Martin Tomczyk, Tom Kristensen, and Timo Scheider are indeed all certain to remain in the team in 2008.

Alexandre Prémat and Mike Rockenfeller, who are racing with the older cars (this season it was 2006 Audis), have also been confirmed at the ‘Audi MotorShow’ and will race for the brand in 2008. This makes it 6 confirmed drivers out of 10 enlisted by the German team this season.

Audi also took advantage of this announcement to confirm their presence in the discipline next season, an idea that was recently called into question following the Barcelona incident where, according to them, Mercedes had caused deliberate accidents.

« Everyone knows how important Audi Sport Automobile is for our brand. We will continue to focus on the racing series, which allows us to accelerate the development of our automobile ranges. » Announced the president of Audi Sport.

Matthias Ekstrom allowed Audi to win a driver title this season, as well as a constructor’s title. For 2008, the team hopes to repeat the feat, which is why the statement highlights the saying: “You don’t change a winning team.”

Audi will choose three of the four still unofficial drivers next week during tests in Jerez, while the fourth name will be chosen “at the head” by the brand’s sports director.
