Valentino Rossi can’t resist taking the wheel of a WRC car every season. The Italian, who missed out on the Moto GP title this year, has just won the Monza national rally for the second consecutive time.
Rossi was driving a Ford Focus RS WRC of the previous generation equipped with the new Pirelli 2008 tires. The seven-time world champion driver was ahead of Piero Longhi in a Subaru Impreza WRC and Mirko Virag in a Peugeot 307WRC but did not manage to take the ‘Master Show’, a driver duel, which this season goes to Piero Longhi – who also defeated Valentino Rossi in the semi-final.
Some of the best Italian drivers were present, accompanied by numerous stars. The French were also well represented with François Delecour in a Porsche GT3 and Didier Auriol in a Toyota Corolla Super 2000.
As soon as the event was over, Valentino Rossi headed to Jerez where he is conducting his first motorcycle tests for 2008, but Italy continues to speculate about a new career for the national star in WRC if the Italian ever needed to switch professions.
