Force India has its eyes set on 2008

The Force India team must, of course, take into account past mistakes but above all focus on the future in which the battles for scoring points will need to be more frequent, according to technical director Mike Gascoyne.

The Indian team, which in 2007 competed under the name Spyker before changing owners, ended the year in 10th place with one point scored. However, it is worth noting that significant improvements were made in the latter part of the season.

Gascoyne admits that the team has not been able to develop its car as quickly as it had hoped, but it remains optimistic about its chances in the future.

« I think we finished the season in very good shape, » said Gascoyne on the official F1 website.

« The year has been very difficult on many levels, the team did not progress as we had hoped, the situation was very challenging financially, and then we had the sale of the team. »

« In hindsight, we were not able to do as much as we wanted and we have not progressed as much as we would have liked. Nevertheless, looking forward, we can be very optimistic about the future, » he stated.

Gascoyne believes that Force India must make a leap forward in 2008 in order to be in a position to fight for points as often as possible.

For 2008, I think we must definitely take a step forward, be more consistent, be better qualified. We should aim for the top eight places that allow us to score points. And this as often as possible next year, added Gascoyne.

« Scoring the first point was very important for the team. Although finishing the season with one point is about the same as finishing with zero, the impression is different. »

« It’s a benchmark for the team and it shows that we are making progress, » he concluded.
