The former Toyota driver, Ralf Schumacher, speaking in a German newspaper, has taken on the role of a driver recruiter at McLaren. And for good reason, he admits that the seat left vacant by Fernando Alonso might be suitable for him.
He finally advises the British team to make their choice based on what would be most desirable for F1.
« It is no secret to anyone that the open seat at McLaren-Mercedes is by far the most coveted. »
« Every driver who is on the transfer market would like to drive their superb car, » said Schumacher in the columns of Bild am Sonntag.
However, the 32-year-old driver said there has been no contact with McLaren to date, adding that he felt good enough to compete against and even beat Lewis Hamilton.
He won six Grand Prix races during his career with Williams before moving to Toyota, where his presence was seen as a disappointment. He was replaced for the next season by his compatriot Timo Glock.
Ralf Schumacher, the younger brother of the recently retired and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, still needs to find a team for 2008.
