The young Japanese driver, Kamui Kobayashi, who recently signed a contract with Toyota in F1 as a test driver for 2008, has just secured another one with DAMS for the next season in the GP2 series.

At 22, the Japanese driver, supported by numerous sponsors from the Land of the Rising Sun, participated in his second season in the F3 Euroseries this year, also taking the top step of the podium. He then took part in a test session with DAMS just a few days after the end of his season, which he finished in 4th position.

« I am very happy to race with DAMS in GP2 », he stated.

« We have already worked together in Jerez and at Paul Ricard where we strengthened our relationship. They were able to discover my style at different stages. »

« This season will therefore be really very important for me, especially with the start of the GP2 Asia very soon. But it will be the challenge to take on! » Concluded the Japanese.

The leaders of DAMS have been involved in the development of new drivers with Toyota for two years now. In 2006, the French team led by Jean-Paul Driot had a certain Kazuki Nakajima as their driver. Today, it is Kobayashi’s turn to benefit from this new springboard.

« It is a pleasure and a great honor to continue our connection with the Toyota Drivers Program (TDP) for young driver development next season for the third consecutive season, » confirmed Driot.

« We were happy to be able to take Nakajima as a full-time driver and we hope to do so as often as possible… » He concluded.
