The lawyer for Nigel Stepney denied reports from Italian scientists that allegedly proved the former Ferrari mechanic was involved in an attempt to sabotage the team’s cars before the Monaco Grand Prix.
The analysis showed that a mysterious powder found in Kimi Räikkönen’s fuel tank before the Monaco race was the same as that found in a pair of Stepney’s trousers found in his apartment.
However, Stepney’s lawyer Sonia Bartolini insisted that the tests on these chemicals are not finished and that more are to be conducted until the beginning of next month.
« Even if we question the manner in which the incriminated powder was collected, we are astonished to learn about the rumors regarding the analysis of this same substance found on pants belonging to Nigel Stepney, » she declared in the columns of the Gazzetta dello Sport.
« In fact, this examination has not yet been conducted by recognized experts appointed for this purpose. They will consider any potential issues between December 5th and 10th. »
« Thus, at present there is no evidence that could harm my client, » concluded Stepney’s lawyer.
