The newly retired, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher will once again be put to the test for Ferrari in Jerez, in southern Spain, next month, the F1 team stated this Thursday.
“We have not yet organized the program, but it will be done within a few days,” said the spokesperson for Scuderia.
Schumacher retired at the end of the 2006 season but returned to the track in Barcelona for other winter tests that took place a few days ago. At the time, both parties justified this presence as being half for pleasure, half for technical reasons.
Schumacher was the fastest driver over the two days of testing in which he participated.
The 38-year-old German, who has ruled out any return to competition, has extensive experience in driving vehicles without traction control and is cited as a so-called aids driver.
The technical regulations in F1 are changing for next year with the removal of traction control.
« My love for this sport has never faded, and driving a F1 car is the best thing that can happen to « a motor racing guy, » said Schumacher on his website before the final event.
This has nothing to do with my decision to retire which is irrevocable. I hope I can give Ferrari some support in their preparation for the new season.
Ferrari won both possible titles this year, with Finnish driver Kimi Räikkönen for the driver’s title and, of course, the constructors’ title.
