We announced to you yesterday that the chances of finding Fernando Alonso at Renault in 2008 were estimated at 60%, but it seems that in 24 hours, this rate has been revised downwards…
The negotiations between Fernando Alonso and Renault regarding his potential return to the French team in 2008 have therefore reached an impasse, Spanish and Italian sources stated on Tuesday.
The Spanish sports daily Marca reports that the team boss Flavio Briatore is happy with the return of the Spaniard who is claiming a one-year contract. Carlos Ghosn, however, refuses to budge from the offer of a minimum three-year contract with the team.
The latest rumors say that Alonso would like to be at Renault only for one year because he aims to join Ferrari in 2009. Kimi Räikkönen is under contract until the end of 2009, and Felipe Massa has recently been confirmed with the Scuderia until the end of 2010.
It’s a scenario that could be understandable but not very appealing for the leaders at Renault.
The Italian telegram service Agenzia Giornalistica confirms that Ghosn wants a long-term commitment: « It’s a three-year contract or nothing. »
A case to follow then…
