Toro Rosso will start the 2008 season with old cars. Team Principal Franz Tost revealed that 2007 cars will be used by Toro Rosso for at least the first four races of 2008.
The reason for this choice for Tost is simple as it is to ensure better reliability for next season, because if the new car has problems, then we will have time to react.
In the columns of the Austrian newspaper Tiroler Tageszeitung, Tost seems to confirm that discussions are ongoing between Red Bull and the double world champion Fernando Alonso. This fuels the rumors surrounding the Spaniard even further.
« The fact is that Alonso is still without a fixed contract, and for each team, he represents a great interest. »
« As far as I know, there are talks between Red Bull and Alonso, » added Tost.
However, he downplayed the rumors that David Coulthard would leave Red Bull to make way for the Spaniard and move to the Toro Rosso team next year.
« We have contracts with Vettel and Bourdais. Those are the facts, and everything else is conjecture, » he concluded.
