Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher believes that Ross Brawn will need time to ensure that his influence bears fruit within the Honda Racing team.
Brawn, on sabbatical leave this year, will join the Japanese team as the team principal after having been the technical director of Ferrari.
The Briton, who will start working at Honda at the end of this month, was the master strategist for Schumacher who helped him win his titles with the Benetton and Ferrari teams.
The German driver, however, believes that Brawn is joining Honda too late to have a significant impact on the team at the start of the next season.
« It is true that Ross is a super brain, as we call him in Germany, but it would be unlikely that he could turn the team around and set it on the right path in such a short time. That is, before the start of the next season, » Schumacher told reporters at the Barcelona circuit.
« It is highly unlikely, even with Ross. There is no doubt about his experience and his designation as a super brain, but I think it will take time. »
« I am sure he will contribute a lot and he will be able to move things forward quite quickly, » concluded the German.
Honda suffered major setbacks in 2007, scoring only six points in the constructors’ standings.
