Brawn: « This is the team I wanted to work with »

The new Honda boss, Ross Brawn, admitted that his decision to join the Japanese team was easy to make after his sabbatical year away from the F1 world.

The former technical director of Ferrari was confirmed in his new position yesterday [Monday]. He will therefore not return to the Scuderia since an internal restructuring has taken place and his name was not mentioned anywhere.

He will now work alongside Nick Fry to try to lift the team after an almost disastrous 2007. However, this observation did not influence his choice to join the team as it was made easily.

« It wasn’t so easy to find an opportunity like this, because there are only a few teams in F1 and it was the only one to offer me something, and this is convenient since it’s with this team that I wanted to work, » he declared on Honda TV.

« Thus, my decision was not difficult to make. »

« The essential thing is Honda’s attitude and commitment. Knowing that it has a long racing history, it understands what is necessary and knows how difficulties must be approached, » he continued.

Brawn added that he was looking forward to working with Jenson Button for the first time and has a very strong bond with Rubens Barrichello dating back to their Ferrari years.

« I have always admired Jenson and I really want to start working with him. Rubens, I know well and I know very well who he is: He is a driver with whom I have won many races and who has had the opportunity to win the world title several times, » concluded Brawn.
