Fernando Alonso believes he made the right decision to move from Renault to McLaren for the 2007 season, despite his problems with the British team.

The double world champion who therefore joined the Woking team after four racing seasons with Renault, battled on all fronts throughout the 2007 season.

This year, Alonso won four races and fought for the title until the last race in Brazil, but announced last week that he was leaving McLaren after his relationship with the team had seriously deteriorated.

Despite this, Alonso believes that the McLaren’s performance throughout the year justifies his move.

« This year, I had the opportunity to win the championship once again, so from that point of view, the change from Renault to McLaren was a good decision, » said Alonso on the official F1 website.

« The team did a fantastic job in putting together a competitive car which allowed me to fight until the last race and finish just one point behind the champion. So, in that regard, I think it was a very good season. »

« Outside of the car, we have experienced ups and downs, good times but also more difficult situations, but I believe that is what happens in every job, » he added.

I will remember this year because of my four victories that were important for me as I won races I hadn’t won before, like Monza. Not to forget Monaco for the second time.

The Spaniard believes he can be proud of this season, but has promised to learn the lessons from this year.

« I hope that for next year all the experiences I lived through in 2007 will serve as lessons, and I will try to start off on the right foot. »

« For any driver, when we lose a championship, we start to think about the reason why we lost it. But in the end, we genuinely lost, so there’s nothing more we can do. It’s history, » stated the Spanish driver.

« The future allows for many changes, and the future has already begun. It is on my shoulder, and I feel very confident, » he concluded.
