Justin Wilson and Robert Doornbos both stated their determination to finish their 2007 Champ Car championship as vice-world champion.
Sébastien Bourdais is now assured of winning a 4th consecutive title after his brilliant victory three weeks ago at Surfers Paradise in Australia and thus only allows the other drivers to fight for the podium. But according to Wilson and Doornbos, finishing second in the 2007 championship would be just as important.
Finishing second in the championship is very important for the entire team and all the employees of RuSPORT. We are therefore determined to reach the top, said Justin Wilson, while preparing for his team’s final race, marking its last season in Champcar in 2007.
« Mexico City has always been a success for us. We are therefore delighted to go there, but we know that taking the pole and the victory will obviously be complicated, » continued the Briton.
However, if we succeed, we are almost certain to be able to finish second in the championship…
On his side, Robert Doornbos is equally motivated. In his first year in the American discipline, the Dutch driver surprised everyone by leading the championship until mid-season before being unable to keep up with Bourdais’s pace.
« Even though the championship has already been decided, I would like to warn that the battle for the runner-up position will be tough! »
The Minardi Team USA driver hopes to rely on his team for this.: « I have confidence in my team and the very experienced engineers. Thus, combined with my motivation, which is much greater than at the beginning of the season, I am almost certain to do a good job. »
Before the final round of this season in Mexico this weekend, Doornbos is only 8 points behind Wilson. Suffice it to say, that’s just a pinch given the very large number of points awarded in this championship.
