Lucas is part of the Renault Driver Development Program, an entity based in Enstone and affiliated with the Renault F1 Team, double world champions in 2005 and 2006. Lucas finished this season as Vice Champion of the GP2 Series, the championship where Lewis Hamilton honed his skills before moving up to Formula 1.

Now that the season has ended, Di Grassi, accompanied by the Head of Human Resources for the Renault F1 Team, Donna Biskup, took the opportunity to visit the Children’s Hospital located at the John Radcliffe site in Headington. Together, they went into several rooms where Lucas was able to talk with the children while distributing caps and signed postcards. Peter Richards, a neurosurgeon, accompanied them: « It was wonderful to see the children’s faces light up! Lucas’s visit provided them with a lovely distraction. He was really very kind to them. He talked to them a lot and made them feel at ease. »

Lucas also visited the playground that the team with the Diamond sponsored, where he was able to see some of the young patients testing the numerous small Formula 1 cars.

Andrew House, Head of Donations for the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Funds, explains that the Renault F1 Team has significantly contributed to our £15 million fundraising campaign for the construction of the Children’s Hospital by making a substantial donation and also providing us with toy cars that the children adore. It was fantastic to be able to show Lucas and Donna what their support has brought us. Donations like theirs have allowed us to create one of the best children’s hospitals in the country.

Lucas di Grassi comments: « It was fabulous to meet the children at the Oxford Children’s Hospital and to be able to talk with them. I have had the luck and opportunity to live my dream by pursuing my career as a driver. But the determination and courage needed to drive a single-seater are absolutely nothing compared to what these children have to endure and what they have to fight against every day. It is a privilege and an inspiration to have met them, and I am proud to be part of a team that is so committed to community life. »

The Children’s Hospital opened its doors last January and has already helped tens of thousands of patients. Its bright and colorful design offers maximum comfort to children and their families.

If you would like to support the Children’s Hospital in turn, you can find different ways on their website: www.oxfordradcliffe.nhs.uk/getinvolved.
