F1 rankings after the Canadian GP: Piastri extends his lead, Alonso improves, Mercedes overtakes Ferrari
At the end of the Canadian Grand Prix, the driver and team rankings underwent several notable adjustments. While Oscar Piastri continues to lead the championship, the gap between him and those chasing him is widening. On the constructors' side, the hierarchy is also changing, with movements in the middle of the table. Here's a full update on the standings after this tenth round of the Formula 1 season.
Driver standings: Piastri still in the lead, Ocon gains a place, Alonso climbs two
Thanks to his fourth place at the Canadian Grand Prix, combined with his teammate’s retirement, Oscar Piastri consolidates his lead in the championship. The Australian now totals 198 points and extends the gap with Lando Norris (176 pts), who is now 22 points behind compared to just 10 after the Spanish Grand Prix.
Winner in Montreal, George Russell climbs to 136 points and maintains a solid fourth position, slightly closing the gap to Max Verstappen (155 pts), who remains third. Charles Leclerc, with 104 points, completes the top 5.
Behind, Lewis Hamilton holds his sixth place with 79 points, while young Andrea Kimi Antonelli continues to impress. The Italian driver, seventh with 63 points, does not move up in the standings but confirms his potential.
With 42 points, Alexander Albon is in eighth position. Esteban Ocon gains a place and moves up to ninth (22 pts), at the expense of Isack Hadjar (21 pts), who drops one spot. Nico Hülkenberg (20 pts) remains stable in eleventh place. Noteworthy for Esteban: he has scored points in each of his participations in the Canadian Grand Prix. It’s a circuit he particularly enjoys.
At the bottom of the standings, the battle is particularly tight: Stroll, Sainz, Gasly, Tsunoda, Alonso, Bearman, and Lawson are separated by less than 10 points. Notably, Fernando Alonso has made a strong comeback (+2 positions), in contrast to the declines of Bearman and Lawson (−1 each).
Finally, Bortoleto, Colapinto, and Doohan bring up the rear, still without a single point.
F1 Constructors’ Standings: McLaren Remains Leader, Mercedes Overtakes Ferrari
The double podium achieved by Mercedes at the Canadian Grand Prix has led to some changes in the constructors’ standings. Despite the retirement of one of their cars, McLaren still comfortably leads the championship with 374 points (or 35% of the total points awarded since the start of the season). However, the gap at the top has slightly narrowed: the Woking team had a 197-point lead before Montreal, compared to 175 now.
But it’s especially at the back where the changes are the most interesting. With 199 points, Mercedes gains a place and moves into second position, relegating Ferrari (183 points) to third place. The German team makes a nice comeback, while the Scuderia, struggling, falls back a spot. The gap remains limited (only 16 points), and the competition promises to be tight.
Red Bull, fourth with 162 points, maintains its position but seems to be clearly falling behind. The Austrian team is now 212 points behind McLaren, a situation far removed from its dominance in recent seasons.
In the middle of the standings, Williams remains fifth with 55 points, neither threatened nor capable of competing with the top 4 for now.
Lower down, several changes are to be noted. Haas and Racing Bull are now tied with 28 points, but it is Haas that takes the lead in the standings (+1 place). Racing Bull, on the other hand, drops one rank.
Thanks to Fernando Alonso who scores points for the second time this season, Aston Martin (22 points) gains a position, while Kick Sauber (20 points) loses one. Finally, Alpine is at the bottom with only 11 points, remaining stuck in tenth place.
