Back to back, or “no rest” as we say in the newsroom. Return of a Grand Prix this weekend, directly after Baku. At the dawn of the eighteenth meeting of the season, McLaren took the lead in the constructors’ standings, following the brilliant race by Oscar Piastri. Meanwhile, Lando Norris continues to narrow the gap with Max Verstappen, his rival for the driver’s title. He still has 206 potentially to score and 59 behind the leader and triple defending world champion.

This edition of the Singapore Grand Prix will take place for the second time on the new version of the track, following redevelopment work around the circuit. This new configuration is distinguished by the removal of turns 16 and 19, replaced by a straight line of nearly 400 meters. This reduces the number of turns to 19 and the total length of the circuit to 4.928 km.

Present since 2008, it has entered the history as the first night race and the first Asian urban Formula 1 Grand Prix. It is also described as the most physical Grand Prix of the season, due to its demanding track and the extreme heat felt by the drivers from their cockpit. Every year, they can lose up to 3 kg during the race, just by sweating.

Last year, it was the Scuderia’s driver Carlos Sainz who won. If the circuit seems to favor Ferrari, McLaren’s recent victories suggest a similar battle to that of Baku for the top spot.

The weekend is going to be tough for Max Verstappen and Red Bull. The Dutchman has never won on the streets of the city-state and with his recent loss of pace, the Milton Keynes team is not among the favorites for victory.
