Lando Norris expects McLaren to take a back seat at Monza
After dominating the race at Zandvoort, Lando Norris isn't expecting the same level of performance in Italy. The McLaren driver still remembers last year's Grand Prix, which was difficult for him.
Will Lando Norris once again take points from Max Verstappen? Or will the Dutch driver increase his lead in the championship? According to the words of the McLaren driver, it is rather the second option that would be closer to the truth.
Interviewed at a press conference about his hopes in Monza, the British driver admitted that Red Bull could be the big favorite this weekend. Even though the Temple of Speed has similarities with Spa, where McLaren had performed well, Lando Norris prefers to be cautious.
We therefore do not expect to be as good as last weekend, that’s for sure. We have always known that we would be very good at Zandvoort, but yes, it’s a weekend where we expect good competition with all our competitors,” he says.
The man who is in second place in the driver’s championship remembers the 2023 Italian Grand Prix. A race finished in eighth place while the Woking car had achieved several podiums at the beginning of the season. It was probably one of our worst races last year, mainly because I found myself stuck behind Alex (Albon) throughout the race. It was really one of the toughest races we had last year.
If he wants to catch up with Max Verstappen and hope to win the title, Lando Norris must maximize his results. Even if he wins all the races and the Dutchman finishes second, it will be difficult to overtake him by the end of the year.
