Pierre Gasly abandons in the first lap of the British Grand Prix
The Frenchman, starting from 19th place, didn't drive much. His gearbox acted up.
He will quickly want to move on to something else. Pierre Gasly only completed one lap in the British Grand Prix. That of the warm-up lap. At the end of this first unofficial lap, the Frenchman headed towards the pit lane.
A surprising decision, knowing that driver number 10 was supposed to start from the 19th place on the grid. A few moments after the start, Alpine confirmed that Pierre Gasly was the victim of a mechanical problem. The Frenchman’s gearbox would have caused trouble. There is now only one blue car left in the race.
This is the second retirement of the season for Pierre Gasly due to a gearbox issue. In Saudi Arabia, he had to throw in the towel for the same reasons. He thus ends a streak of nine consecutive finishes.
This incident caps off a difficult weekend for Pierre Gasly. From Friday onwards, he knew he was in trouble after being penalized for having multiple engine component changes.
