Official: Pierre Gasly extends his contract with Alpine

Maybe it’s the Flavio Briatore effect who knows…

A few days after Flavio Briatore’s return as a luxury consultant, Pierre Gasly extends his adventure with Alpine. While his future was uncertain, it gradually cleared up, first with Esteban Ocon’s departure, then with the arrival of the Italian consultant, who convinced him to stay. After 2 promising seasons in terms of sports, he continues the French adventure. On an emotional level, he will have to succeed in keeping his nerves, a complex task when the atmosphere within the team was tense.

Pierre Gasly declares: “I really feel at home in this big team. I have officially been here for over eighteen months and the goal has always been to build for the long term with the team. Even if the on-track season has been difficult so far, I remain faithful to the project and I am not going anywhere else. I am satisfied with the changes made, the hard work, and the direction taken by the team. There is a lot of potential in the personnel and resources of this team. I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for us.”

A solid balance sheet at Alpine

The native of Rouen signed a podium with Alpine, it was in 2023 in the Netherlands. Out of 32 Grand Prix races with the team, he scored points 14 times. In his first season, he had already finished ahead of his teammate Esteban Ocon by 4 points. He had ended the season in 11th place in the drivers’ standings. In 2024, he suffers from the lack of competitiveness of his car. However, he scored points in the last 3 Grand Prix races, reflecting the progress made by Alpine in recent weeks.

Which driver to accompany him?

The remaining question now is who will accompany him in 2025. According to L’Equipe and the journalist Frédéric Ferret, Carlos Sainz is in pole position to become his garage neighbor. Alpine’s reserve driver, Jack Doohan, is also a potential candidate. Bruno Famin had stated before the Spanish Grand Prix that the Australian driver: is an option for 2025. Especially since the young driver will undergo an important testing program with Alpine during the season. As a reminder, he left F2 at the end of last year after 3 seasons in the category and a 3rd place in the driver’s championship.

The latest name mentioned to replace Esteban Ocon, and accompany Pierre Gasly, is that of Mick Schumacher. The latter now drives for the French team in Endurance. He recently participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time. In addition, he will take part in tests on the Paul Ricard circuit driving the 2022 car. Accompanied by Jack Doohan in these tests, there is no doubt that a direct comparison of the two drivers will be established. All hopes will be allowed for the fastest… unless Carlos Sainz comes and disrupts the plans.
