The Stake drivers will leave from the pit lane
There will be only 18 on the starting grid. Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou will start from their garage after changes of parts and settings.
They have violated the regulation. Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou have been penalized for not respecting the regulation a few minutes before the start of the Canadian Grand Prix.
First, the Finn changed his battery pack as well as his electronic control unit. The Sauber driver now has the third element of each type, exceeding the allowed limit. This results in penalty places. He also changed the rear wing specification, which is also prohibited. Since these modifications were made under Parc Fermé conditions, Valtteri Bottas will have to start from the pit lane.
His teammate, Guanyu Zhou, received the same penalty. The Chinese driver did not change any power unit components, unlike the Finnish driver, but he will not have the same rear wing as during qualifying. This explains his penalty.
The two men have so far experienced a difficult weekend, so leaving the pit lane will not improve things. But the weather conditions look complex, they could take advantage of the situation to move up in the hierarchy.
The departure is scheduled for 8 p.m., probably under a safety car regime.
