Esteban Ocon penalized five places in Canada
Penalized for causing an accident with his teammate in Monaco, Esteban Ocon received a 10-second penalty. But having retired, he will serve this penalty in Canada, but this time in the form of penalty places on the grid.
The race management had the same opinion as Bruno Famin. In the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix, Esteban Ocon attempted a very daring overtaking on his teammate, before the tunnel. But the two Alpines collided. In the impact, the driver number 31 took off, which heavily damaged the car.
Despite repairs in the pit lane, during the red flag caused by the big accident on the first lap, Esteban Ocon could not return to the track. This annoyed the team boss, Bruno Famin, who placed all the responsibility on the winner of the 2021 Hungarian GP.

Summoned by the stewards, Esteban Ocon had to explain the incident. He left this summons with a 10-second penalty. But having retired, he was unable to serve this sanction on the streets of the Principality. Therefore, five grid penalty places were imposed on him at the Canadian Grand Prix.

The Frenchman suffered a big loss in this incident with his teammate. He could even be sanctioned by his team. This is, in any case, what the Alpine boss suggested, speaking on Canal+.
On his Instagram account, Esteban Ocon acknowledged his mistake. « I am responsible for today’s incident. The space was too small and I want to apologize to the team. I hope there will be points for us in the end. »
