Fernando Alonso to start Grand Prix from pit lane
The Spanish driver has little left to lose. His mechanics broke the Parc Fermé rule to change some settings on the Aston Martin. The Spaniard was not at ease in qualifying.
He was supposed to start second to last, but Fernando Alonso will finally start his Grand Prix from the pit lane.
He was comfortable since the beginning of the weekend. His practice sessions were satisfying, but his crash during Free Practice 3 changed his Grand Prix. Struggling in qualifying and being eliminated in Q3 for the first time this season, the Spaniard claimed that the car was OK. However, since his crash, the Spaniard has not found the lap times that were his own.
In any case, far back on the grid, Aston Martin is trying to find solutions. So, its mechanics changed the suspension settings between Saturday evening and Sunday noon. This maneuver is synonymous with a breach of the Parc Fermé regulations, resulting in a pit lane start.
Will these changes pay off for the Spanish pilot?
Response from 3pm, for the start of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
