Lando Norris elected driver of the day in Miami
The Briton, in addition to achieving his first victory in Formula 1, received the honorary award of driver of the day in Miami. A very beautiful day for Lando Norris.
He was high in the polls. More than 44% of voters had written Lando Norris on their ballot. The McLaren driver impressed at this Miami Grand Prix, also winning his first Formula 1 Grand Prix.
After having missed out on it many times, especially in Russia in 2021, the Briton finally clinched the Holy Grail. To achieve this, he was greatly helped by the dozen of new features brought by his team for this first race of the season on American soil.
He had a very strong weekend. Apart from a small disappointment during the qualifying for the sprint race where he could have hoped for a better result and was taken out in the first corner of the race, Lando Norris shone. Very fast throughout the weekend, he became the first man to beat Max Verstappen fairly this season. An achievement only accomplished by Carlos Sainz last year in Singapore, towards the end of the season.
This first success in Formula 1 also has major consequences on the standings. Lando Norris secures a provisional fifth place. For his opponents to catch up, they will have to step up their game. His closest rival is none other than his teammate. Oscar Piastri has 41 points less, which is less than half of the British driver’s total.
