Ferrari unveils its livery for the Miami Grand Prix

It has been more than a week now that the tifosis have been awaiting the new livery of the SF-24 for the Miami Grand Prix. The communication team first revealed a collection of blue clothing that the drivers will wear during the race weekend. Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc then introduced their blue helmets. All that was left was for the car to complete Ferrari’s look for this 6th race of the season.

The most conservative fans are surely delighted to see that the red has not been abandoned and entirely replaced by blue. For those who wanted a radical change, they must be more disappointed. Indeed, the blue has been added cautiously, mainly on the two fins, as well as on the wheels and the halo.

Blue: several references to the past… also to the future

The most lasting change is the arrival of a new sponsor, with an even more prestigious title, for the Italian team. HP has announced its investment in the Scuderia’s project and its logo will appear for the first time in Miami on the single-seater. For the most conventional among us, we will no longer just be talking about Scuderia Ferrari but Scuderia Ferrari HP. This new livery sprinkled with blue is an opportunity to highlight this new sponsor and partner.

In the photos, two different shades of blue can be clearly identified: the Azzuro La Plata and the Azzuro Dino: « The light blue of the Azzuro La Plata […] is similar to the one preferred and regularly used by the Italian Alberto Ascari during his most successful years on the tracks. The double world champion always wore a shirt and a helmet of this color as a lucky charm. » It is this rather light shade that we find on the overalls of the two Ferrari drivers.

The other blue, Azzuro Dino, is a much brighter blue that has been favored by several Scuderia pilots, notably Arturo Merzario and Clay Regazzoni. The latter was the last driver to wear a suit of this color in 1974, and gradually, the shirts and suits of the mechanics also took on this hue, before becoming the norm from the 70s to the early 80s. This weekend in Miami marks the temporary return of this blue for the mechanics’ uniforms.

Finally, the return of the blue is also a historical nod. 70 years ago, in 1964, for the last two Grand Prix of the season held in the United States, Ferrari raced with two blue single-seaters! This blue was due to a quite crazy story that opposed Enzo Ferrari and the Automobile Club d’Italia. In response to a disagreement between them, the founder of Ferrari chose to abandon the famous Rosso Corsa in order to compete in America.

In 1964, Ferrari had won the 2 races held in blue in America, first at Watkins Glen and then in Mexico. Let’s now see if the blue livery of the SF-24 will bring them luck and allow the Scuderia to leave Florida victorious…
