How is the money earned by F1 in 2023 distributed among the 10 teams?

In F1 money is the sinews of war. Even though since 2021, a budget cap has been put in place to limit the expenses of big teams like Mercedes, Ferrari or Red Bull and small stables like Haas or Williams, they need money to function.

The money is for the teams on the one hand distributed according to the manufacturer’s ranking of the previous season. The higher the team finishes the season in the top places of the championship, the more money it will earn. In addition to its ranking, Ferrari also receives a loyalty bonus to F1, since it has been present in the championship since the first edition in 1950. This bonus is 5%, or 50 million dollars.

Which team wins how much?

The reigning champion recovers 14% of the billion distributed to the teams by F1. The last team receives 6% of the sum. The exact figures of the money received by the 10 teams on the grid are however not known.

As a reminder, the capped budget is locked at around 165 million euros in 2024. Red Bull thus only has to find 25 million euros to finalize its 2024 budget when Haas still needs to find 105 million euros to fight on an equal footing… a capped budget that does not really seem to match the way the teams are paid by F1.
