Summary: Which driver caused the most expensive damages in the 2023 season?

The 2023 Formula 1 season is over and there have been numerous accidents. Accidents that are adding to the difficulties faced by the teams, which are now subject to a budget cap.

1st: Logan Sargeant

Unable to secure pole positions on the circuits, Logan Sargeant is the driver who has cost his team the most money with a total of €4,300,000 in repairs throughout the 2023 season. This cost, combined with that of his teammate Alexander Albon, amounting to €2,780,000, raises Williams’ total costs to €7,080,000.

2nd: Carlos Sainz

For the Spanish driver, the second place is just as costly as unexpected, since before the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz was in the middle of the table in terms of repair costs. Indeed, during the first free practice session in Sin City, a poorly fixed manhole cover hit the undertray of the race car, causing severe damage to the Ferrari and forcing the team to change a significant portion of the car’s components.

Max Verstappen, last

This is probably the only last place that Max Verstappen had to appreciate this year. A season that he completely dominated in terms of performance, with a slew of records to boot. One record in particular, that of the highest number of laps completed in a season. Indeed, the Dutchman simply did not miss a single lap this season, which means he did not have any major accidents requiring major repairs. That’s why in 22 Grand Prix races, it will only cost Red Bull €345,000.
