Isack Hadjar after his first laps in F1: « It’s a F3 on steroids »
At just 19 years old, he was able to drive Yuki Tsunoda's AlphaTauri during the first free practice session at this Mexican GP. And the least we can say is that the French F2 driver, member of the Red Bull Junior Team, enjoyed the experience.
There were 5 F2 drivers testing the best in the world of motorsport. Some, like Théo Pourchaire, had already driven an F1 car, while others, like Isack Hadjar, were celebrating their grand debut. The first one had a stroke of bad luck, unable to complete any timed laps, but for the second one, it was a successful first time!
A first filled with emotions
He signed the 17th time, the 2nd among the F2 drivers, over 2 seconds behind Verstappen. However, the lap times are almost insignificant when we talk about a first experience behind the wheel of such a machine.
Anyway, he seemed satisfied, whether it was on the radio with his team or in the mixed zone on Canal + microphone:
« It was insane, already in the first round coming out of the pits it was going too fast, honestly, I got used to it pretty quickly but I couldn’t push as much as I wanted to, I was a bit far from the limit but oh well. I think I did a good job for a first time, so I’m happy, it was cool! »
He was so enthusiastic on the radio at the end of the session, that he stated it was the most beautiful day of his life!
Impressed by the car, and future driver of the RB19!
Having gone through the F4 and Regional Formula, he is currently 14th in the F2 championship before the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi. When asked about the differences between the car categories he has driven and Formula 1, he is adamant:
Compared to an F2, an F3 has more power, more aerodynamics, and the traction is incredible. It brakes too hard: it’s an F3 on steroids. It was crazy, and I’m a bit disappointed that I can’t go back immediately, but it was cool!
A little patience, Isack, as he has been chosen to drive the Red Bull in just a few weeks in the last race of the season!
