Inappropriate behavior from Lance Stroll: the FIA gives him a warning
At the Qatar Grand Prix, Lance Stroll jostled one of his team members after the qualifications. The FIA decided to sanction this behavior.
His apologies did nothing to change the situation. After a series of under-performances, Lance Stroll was once again eliminated in Q1, in Qatar. Following this, the Canadian, once in his garage, let out his anger.
He then threw his steering wheel – a piece that costs about 60,000 € – on the ground. Getting out of his single-seater, he then jostled one of his team members. The latter had told him to go to the weigh-in, which is mandatory after each session.
The scene was broadcast live and had sparked controversy on social networks. The Aston Martin driver later apologized and explained this temper tantrum through frustration. But the behavior hadn’t been to the liking of FIA leaders.
Punished Despite Apologies
These then launched an investigation and delivered their verdict, this Friday, October 13. « We can confirm that the FIA Compliance Officer [the person in charge of rule compliance] has received apologies from Lance Stroll regarding his behavior during the Qatar Formula 1 Grand Prix 2023. The Compliance Officer has taken note of these apologies and issued a written warning, reminding Lance of his responsibilities as a competitor bound by the FIA’s Code of Ethics and other ethical and conduct guidelines set out by the FIA’s sports regulations », explains the FIA.
« The FIA maintains a zero tolerance position towards reprehensible behaviors and condemns any action that can lead to physical harassment. »
