What should Aston Martin do with Lance Stroll?
The Canadian once again shows that he is below the level of his teammate. Although he drives a car capable of scoring points in every race, he is far behind Fernando Alonso. He even has several eliminations in Q1.
We tended to criticize and scold Nikita Mazepin and Nicholas Latifi. Today, it’s Logan Sargeant who bears the wrath of Zeus. But another individual does not have unanimous support despite being in Formula 1 for a little while now.
Arriving at Williams in 2017 thanks to his family’s money, Lance Stroll quickly silenced the skeptics shortly after his first Grand Prix. With a podium finish in Baku, he managed to make people forget about his early season mistakes. However, the rest of the campaign did not charm many observers.
Money, money, money…
If he remains within the British stable, it is once again thanks to his father Lawrence’s millions. The latter, supporting his son’s career, takes advantage of Force India’s lack of funds to inject finances into it. Ultimately, he purchases the team. This action hides another one. Not necessarily positive, this time. Lance Stroll is involved in it.
Certainly, at the wheel of the pink car – named Racing Point at that time – he will achieve some feats like his pole position in Turkey in 2020. Otherwise, nothing exciting. The Canadian is more notorious for his accidents, mistakes, and almost neutral expression than for his driving skills. The name change to Aston Martin will not change that.
With a car that stutters in the depths of the rankings, Lance Stroll no longer stands out, except for his mistakes and his lack of performance. Which, by the way, will be the source of many mockeries on social media.
No overtaking allowed!
This new season proves it once again. Aston Martin was able to compete with Red Bull in the early races. The proof of this is Fernando Alonso and his small collection of podium finishes. On the other hand, Lance Stroll will not do better than fourth place. What’s even worse is that in Spain, his teammate mysteriously has to stay behind him and cannot overtake. Knowing the temperament of the double world champion, questions are starting to arise.
His results increase doubts about his ability to stay in Formula 1. The problem with Lance Stroll remains his father. He supports him and should always help him. In theory, as long as Lawrence Stroll remains the owner of a team, the Canadian will still be there.
Jobs in gaming?
But is it really deserved? To be completely honest, yes and no. Yes, because he has proven several times that he can be fast. But no, because it’s too inconsistent. It feels like Formula 1 is for him what tarot or bridge is to elderly people.
Should Lance Stroll then leave Formula 1? One would tend to say yes. But that would undoubtedly not be without consequences. His father could then give up on Aston Martin, risking not finding a buyer. Even if several teams are pushing to join the grid, it is not certain that they would want to take on an existing project. Andretti is committed to Cadillac. Hitech has a track record in other championships…
The situation seems to be leading to a deadlock. Although he holds a seat that someone else could obtain, he can ensure discipline for ten teams, or even more. And in addition to that, thousands of jobs.
