Bruno Famin confirms discussions with Mick Schumacher for the WEC program

Certain rumors are being confirmed. Several days ago, multiple media outlets reported that discussions were taking place between Alpine and Mick Schumacher for the WEC program. « It is true that we are discussing with Mick about the possibility of racing in our endurance program behind the wheel of the A424. I believe it would be a great opportunity for both parties, but for now, we are only discussing and I hope we will soon organize a test », confirmed Bruno Famin, director of Alpine Motorsports, during a press conference.

Without a seat for next season in Formula 1, this would allow the German to find a new activity and championship. However, he would still keep his position at Mercedes as a reserve driver.

On the Alpine side, the team is preparing its construction for its return to the premier category. The French team recently tested its Hypercar at Lurcy-Lévis. But there is still one unknown: who will be the drivers next year? The team has not confirmed anything yet, but it would seem logical for Nicolas Lapierre, Matthieu Vaxiviere, and Charles Milesi to be retained since they are the only ones testing the A424.

So this would leave three spots still available for the German, since Alpine will field two cars for the next season of WEC. In this case, Mick Schumacher would be following in his father’s footsteps, who raced in endurance in the early 90s with Sauber.
