Two more years at McLaren for Oscar Piastri

A secure future. McLaren has just announced the extension of its young Australian driver’s contract for two years. The former Alpine driver joined the Woking-based team at the beginning of the year and had a contract valid until the end of 2024.

The latter had been recruited by McLaren after thanking Daniel Ricciardo and snagging him from Alpine following a contract issue with the French team.

His performances with the Oranges have evidently impressed his team leaders. Oscar Piastri obtained his first podium in the discipline during the Grand Prix of Great Britain, finishing in third place. Two races later, he led his first laps during the sprint race in Belgium. In Monza, the Australian also achieved the fastest lap of the race.

Always by Lando Norris’ side

« I am delighted to extend my contract with McLaren for many years. I want to fight at the top of the grid with this team and I am excited about its vision and the foundations that have already been laid to achieve it. The welcome I have received and the relationships I have built make me feel at home already », said Oscar Piastri.

The team’s constant commitment towards me has allowed me to feel incredibly valued, and their desire to include me in their long-term future makes this decision easy to make. Being wanted in this way and having the team believe in me so much after just half a season means a lot.

« An incredible talent (m)

He will continue to team up with Lando Norris, who also has a long-term contract with McLaren.

« I am delighted to continue our partnership with Oscar until the end of 2026. He is an incredible talent and an asset to the team, so it’s fantastic to commit to each other for the long term. Oscar is already proving what he can do on the track and has played a crucial role in the turnaround we have experienced so far this season. He integrates brilliantly into the team and is truly appreciated by the whole McLaren Racing family. I am excited to see how he continues to grow on and off the track », rejoices Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren.
