One lap in Singapore for Yuki Tsunoda
The AlphaTauri driver had to retire on the first lap of the Singapore Grand Prix. A contact with Sergio Perez caused significant damage to his car. This is his second consecutive retirement.
Sergio Perez did not make only friends in Singapore. Towards the end of the race, the Mexican driver collided with Alex Albon in order to gain a position. This audacious maneuver resulted in a five-second penalty. A penalty that did not change his final position, 8th.
But that’s not the only questionable move from the Red Bull driver during this race. In the early corners of the Grand Prix, he collided with Yuki Tsunoda. The impact clearly damaged the AlphaTauri, which had to retire shortly after. A regrettable incident for the Japanese driver, who had hopes of scoring points as his teammate, Liam Lawson, finished ninth.
“I am very frustrated,” confesses Yuki Tsunoda. “I had a good start, but I had contact in the first lap, and our pontoon was damaged, as well as the radiator and cooling system, which forced us to retire. It’s frustrating and unfortunate that I couldn’t reach the checkered flag.”
This is the second time in a row that the AlphaTauri driver has had to retire. At Monza, he didn’t even make it to the start as his car broke down during the formation lap. « We will bounce back for Suzuka, the Japanese driver assures.
