The new layout of Singapore has been unanimously approved
Several drivers have appreciated the new version of the Singapore track. They even request that it be made permanent.
For once, some construction work is making people happy. Due to improvements along the city-state’s riverbank, the four corners at the level of the main stands have been removed. In their place, a long straight line has emerged, providing a new opportunity for overtaking and more excitement.
Whether on television or directly on the track, many seemed to be won over by this new version. This circuit is supposed to remain as is until 2026, but several drivers would like it to continue beyond that date.
« It was fun. I think it’s an improvement compared to before. It’s a bit faster, and we have the rhythm throughout the whole lap. I like this change,” » Fernando Alonso enthusiastically confides.
« I prefer this layout. I think it will create at least a few more opportunities, and it just makes the track slightly faster, » adds Valtteri Bottas, who retired quietly.
A loss of income without the stand
But, everything won’t be able to go as the drivers want. With the new layout, the single-seaters no longer pass in front of the grandstand, which causes a loss of revenue. Furthermore, in the long run, the new straight line will no longer exist due to construction work. Therefore, the Singapore circuit should go back in front of this grandstand, which can accommodate 25,000 people, but by modifying the turns to make them faster.
« We don’t know how long the government will take to rebuild. It could take more than three years, it looks like it will be for 2028. We still don’t know,” says Colin Sin, the Grand Prix promoter.
