Rankings: Max Verstappen still increases his lead
Thanks to his fifth-place finish at the Singapore Grand Prix, Max Verstappen continues to extend his lead over Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso. Lewis Hamilton, the only other driver still in contention for the title, gained a few points.
Even outside of the podium and far from the first place, he continues to get closer to his third world title. Starting in 11th place, Max Verstappen was not in the game during the Singapore Grand Prix. Despite his fifth-place finish, he consolidates his lead. His closest rival, Sergio Perez, only finishes eighth. The Dutchman now has a 151-point lead over his teammate. Fernando Alonso, who could still, mathematically, be a contender for the title, finishes the race with no points.
First points for Liam Lawson
Spanish driver even gets overtaken by Lewis Hamilton in the standings, thanks to his podium finish. The British driver has 180 points, which is 12 more than the Aston Martin driver. The seven-time world champion is now just 43 points behind Sergio Perez.
George Russell, who lost everything with half of the season remaining, remains in seventh place and sees the Ferrari drivers pulling away. He has only 109 points compared to 123 and 142 for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, respectively.
The third place is slipping away for Aston Martin
A little further, Liam Lawson unlocks his score with two points earned thanks to his ninth position at the end of this crazy race.
In the constructors’ championship, Ferrari is now only 24 points behind Mercedes. Red Bull will have to wait a little longer to secure the title. Aston Martin is now out of reach for third place, with a 50-point deficit.
