“I no longer felt any power,” Tsunoda explains his withdrawal before the start at Monza

It is indirectly because of him that the departure was postponed. At the end of the warm-up lap, Yuki Tsunoda parked his AlphaTauri in the grass about a hundred meters from the Parabolica. Smoke escaped from the car. The officials then tried to get it back, but it was impossible.

So it took more time than expected, which explained the delayed departure. The Japanese had the opportunity to score points, starting from the 11th position.

An unknown problem

« I heard a strange noise coming from the car, and after that, I no longer felt any power. We still don’t know the exact reason, but we will investigate », says Yuki Tsunoda.

« Obviously, it would have been nice to not have any reliability issues, but it’s only the first time this year, so we remain positive and we will come back stronger. I wanted to race, especially starting so close to home points, so it’s a shame because our pace seemed quite strong during practice, but there are a lot of things we can take away from this weekend. »

However, the AlphaTauri team leader has noticed improvements on his car and promises better races in the future. For him, this retirement is just a setback. « Being able to extract the maximum is one of our strengths, so I’m not worried about the future. »
