Max Verstappen has been fined at Monza
The Dutch driver was caught speeding in the pit lane during the second free practice session of the Italian Grand Prix.
We all know it. Max Verstappen likes to go fast and show that he is the fastest man on the grid. But there are places where you can’t drive at the speed you want. Like in the pit lanes, for example. Depending on the circuits, the speed is limited to 60 or 80 km/h.
In this case, in Monza, the speed limiter must be set at 80 km/h. However, the Dutch driver must have activated it too late or arrived at the pits too quickly. Indeed, the radar flashed him at 84.8 km/h, which is 4.8 km/h more than what the signs allow.
Following this offense, the reigning double world champion has been fined 500 €. The regulation sets the fine at 100 € per km/h exceeding the speed limit in the pit lane, as stated in article 34.7 of the Formula 1 sporting regulations.
The FIA commissioners, who have announced the penalty to Max Verstappen and his team, have stated that they can appeal against this penalty.
