“He did very well,” Horner praises Lawson’s performance at Zandvoort

Jumping straight into the deep end. He barely had time to adapt to the challenging environment of Formula 1. Nevertheless, he performed remarkably well. With only a few kilometers under his belt before hopping into the AlphaTauri, Liam Lawson delivered an impressive race.

The New Zealander was replacing the injured Daniel Ricciardo for this Grand Prix of the Netherlands and had to deal with the changing conditions on Sunday. Apart from a ten-second penalty in the pits, the young man held his own and did not make any mistakes. This performance was praised by the Red Bull team boss, Christian Horner.

Driving at Monza

« This poor guy was thrown into a car he had never driven before, with changing conditions and all possible difficulties. I think he did really well. He even overtook Max [Verstappen] on Max’s out lap when he switched to intermediate tires at the end. Finishing a race like this despite his lack of experience… I found that he really applied himself in very difficult circumstances », Christian Horner emphasizes.

The Super Formula driver will be back on the grid this weekend in Monza. Despite having surgery, Daniel Ricciardo will not be recovered. This will give Liam Lawson the opportunity to further showcase his talent. He is preparing for the Grand Prix in the simulator to be as prepared as possible.
