What records can Max Verstappen still beat?

He is the man in form. This year, Max Verstappen seems to have reached his peak level in a Formula One car. The Dutchman is racking up successes and podiums and leaving only crumbs for his competitors. With such domination, he is accumulating records.

With his success at home, in the Netherlands, Max Verstappen has achieved a 46th victory. After surpassing Ayrton Senna in Austria, he can surpass Alain Prost in the rankings. The Frenchman had won 51 times in his career.

Soon more poles than Jim Clark

Continuing on the topic of victories, the Dutch driver is currently on a streak of nine consecutive wins. This allows him to equal Sebastian Vettel’s record. This weekend, at Monza, the Red Bull driver will have the opportunity to surpass the German. He also has the chance to break his own record of 15 wins in one season. Currently, he already has 11 victories to his name.

Jos Verstappen’s son also seems to have found the solution in qualifying, as he did not excel in this area in previous seasons. Currently, he has set the fastest time in qualifying on 28 occasions. In Monza, he could equal Juan Manuel Fangio’s record. By the end of the year, he could surpass Nico Rosberg (30), Nigel Mansell (32), Alain Prost and Jim Clark (33). He would then become the fifth driver with the most poles in history.

The Dutchman, although comfortably leading the race and the championship, wants to set the fastest lap in the race whenever possible. He has already accumulated 27 and could surpass Jim Clark (28) and Nigel Mansell (30) by the end of the season to become the sixth most accomplished man in this statistical category.

The record for most laps led in a season in sight

Last year, Max Verstappen became the driver to earn the most points in a season, with 454 units. After the Dutch Grand Prix, he has a total of 339 points and there are 258 left to distribute. In Monza – once again – he can equal Lewis Hamilton with the number of consecutive races finished in the points. The British driver had set a first benchmark at 33 races, far from his record of 48 consecutive races in the top 10.

By the end of the season, the Red Bull driver could become the man with the most consecutive podiums. He has just climbed onto the podium for the 14th consecutive time. Between 2001 and 2002, Michael Schumacher set a record with 18 consecutive podium finishes.

This record is anecdotal but shows the dominance of a driver throughout a season. Max Verstappen has led 628 out of the 796 laps this season. In 2011, Sebastian Vettel had led 739 out of the 1133 circuits. This record should easily be broken by Max Verstappen, but the Dutchman could become the man who has spent the most time in the lead in a season. The record is held by Jim Clark with 71.47% of laps led in 1963, currently the Dutchman is at 78.89%.
