Fernando Alonso elected driver of the day in Zandvoort
The Spanish driver, back on the podium for this Grand Prix of the Netherlands, was elected driver of the day. His comeback at the end of the race contributed to the awarding of this title.
He had put pressure on his team to obtain improvements. And they have arrived. And they are working. Fernando Alonso proved it in qualifying with the fourth best time. Then, in the race, the Spanish driver made a bold superb start to gain a position.
Then, when the rain arrived, he was still on slick tires and was the most comfortable man in these conditions. After the general confusion, the Aston Martin driver was more discreet. Then, a little after halfway through the race, he managed to put pressure on Carlos Sainz to regain third place.
After the red flag, the double world champion failed to overtake Max Verstappen and has to settle for second place.
