Robert Shwartzman will participate in FP1 in the Netherlands
Frédéric Vasseur, the boss of the Scuderia, announced that the Russian driver will be behind the wheel of the Ferrari during the first testing session in Zandvoort. He will take the place of Carlos Sainz.
Time is starting to run out for the racing teams and their young drivers. Every season, the young drivers from the teams must carry out at least two free practice sessions on board an F1 car. So far, opportunities have been scarce.
With the end of the season quickly approaching, teams must hurry to comply with this rule. As a result, Ferrari has decided to give the wheel to Robert Shwartzman instead of Carlos Sainz for the first free practice session in the Netherlands.
« There weren’t many options because it can’t be done in Singapore, Japan, and Las Vegas, and there are also sprint races in Qatar and races with different tire allocations », justifies Frédéric Vasseur, the boss of the Scuderia.
The French also explains that he prefers his F2 drivers to focus on the championship. However, he suggests that private testing sessions should be organized with former models.
