Red Bull – Ford: the engine has already started
Helmut Marko, Red Bull's advisor, admitted that a first thermal engine produced by the American giant had been created and started. He believes that his team has a lead over the competitors.
Tomorrow, it’s already today. That may sound strange, but in order to properly prepare for the future, one must start as early as possible. And Red Bull and Ford have understood this well. From 2026 onwards, the two entities will work together, as Ford will produce the engines for the bull car.
The American brand has already started the work and the first parts have already been produced. « We built an engine factory from scratch in record time. We have the latest test benches that exist, all the technology. We brought in people from Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault, and Cosworth. And Ford is our partner », says Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s advisor.
Ahead of the competition
« Many developments are underway in the battery sector. Thanks to our cooperation with Ford, we have a partner who, like all automotive factories, is incredibly innovative in this sector. »
« Two weeks ago, we started our first heat engine with the MGU-K, so we are far ahead of Audi, far ahead of Ferrari, and approximately at the same level as Mercedes according to my sources. »
Fears about the engine
In three years, engines will have to provide a 50/50 ratio. This means that 50% of the power will be provided by the combustion engine and the other half by the electric engine. And according to the Austrian, this aspect of the regulation is currently impossible to achieve. « The 50/50 ratio will not guarantee a good race in the current situation. We can still address this. It’s not a point where we are behind, it’s about the future of the sport. »
