Sergio Perez driver of the day in Hungary
The Mexican driver moved up from ninth to third place in Hungary. Towards the end of the race, he had to fight against Lewis Hamilton to hold on to his podium position. The fans who voted elected him as driver of the day after the Grand Prix at the Hungaroring.
Here is a result that allows to erase – a little bit – his recent underperformances. Despite finally making it into the third phase of qualifying, Sergio Perez started from a distant ninth place on the grid.
The Mexican was able to seize opportunities to climb up in the rankings. He also took advantage of the pace of his Red Bull to gain positions. Towards the end of the race, the driver number 11 was pushing hard to try and overtake Lando Norris for second place, but he collided with the McLaren.
His pace was even below what he was producing, and Lewis Hamilton, in fourth place, was catching up to him by a second each time. The British driver was unable to overtake Sergio Perez, who increased his pace in the last two laps to prevent the Mercedes from passing.
