Fernando Alonso is aiming for the second place in the constructor’s championship with Aston Martin

This start of the season is filled with surprises. Except for Red Bull and Max Verstappen who dominate all the discussions, the battle for the top positions and the podium is raging. While in the first few Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso was the closest rival to the Dutchman, other competitors have joined the chase.

Race after race, teams have constantly made improvements, thus shaking up the hierarchy every weekend. Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso have somewhat disappeared from the picture in favor of Mercedes, Ferrari, and more recently McLaren.

This has narrowed the gap in the constructors’ championship, and Aston Martin now even finds itself as the third strongest team on the grid behind Mercedes. On the grounds where he clinched his first win, Fernando Alonso aims to make progress. And that is so that Lawrence Stroll’s team can reclaim the second position it held earlier this year.

Lance Stroll must also feel concerned

“It’s going to be a close battle until the end. So yes, let’s see what the final position is. We must not forget that there are strong competitors behind us, teams and very fast drivers. Ferrari and McLaren now. We are still P3 in the championship and our goal is to finish P2, knowing that it will be a close battle until the end,” detailed the double world champion in a press conference.

If Aston Martin wants to regain that famous second place, Lance Stroll will also have to step up his game. The Canadian driver only has 44 points compared to his teammate’s 137.
